When money was particularly tight he was walking through alleys when he overheard a Barber hiring some criminals to sabotage a competitor. He made his way to the other competitor and parlayed his knowledge into a job. He was recently attacked on the road and savagely beaten by bandits.

He got caught, but did not rat out his comrades and served his time in prison. Being a Gardener kept his interest for a while, but then he became depressed and bored. So he turned to a secret life of crime, taking increasingly more risks and challenges.

Motivation: He is currently in port desperately looking for someone to get him out; and he is being blackmailed/forced/etc and this influences his actions

History: The child of western immigrants he idolized his mother. While studying, he fell in love. They married and had a son. Days after completing his studies, news broke out that his hometown was attacked by drow. Varis was horrified and prayed that his father was alright. However, he heard that his father had died fighting off the drow.

History: He was born a particularly ugly child, much to the horror of his parents. A few years later when the north was not economically sound they moved to his current location. He was betrayed by a partner and left for dead, teaching him a humbling lesson in trusting others.
