To avoid death by starvation, most orphans take to a life of crime or prostitution (often both), and so did Caeldrim. He knows his nephew is from a royal line that had remained secret for centuries, but promised not to tell anyone. So far, no-one knows but him.

Without his spouse to temper him he grew out of control. Due to his spouse's obsession with being a Marshal they were divorced and he won custody of their son. He worked as a Sellsword, and he later adopted a second son.
