History: He was raised happily, as a normal child born to his father and mother. His father taught him the rudiments of the Tanner arts, while his mother instructed him in etiquette, music and courtly manner. In his 18th year, his parents were killed by a goblins raid, leaving Aelar alone in the world. After a stint in an orphanage, he was adopted. He knows his nephew is from a royal line that had remained secret for centuries, but promised not to tell anyone. So far, no-one knows but him.

He does not regard money as being a problem because it has never been a problem for him. He lives in a bit of an ivory tower believing all problems are one quick intervention away from being solved.

History: Sold as a small child to a brothel owner, Varis was an assistant, and all too frequently test subject. He eventually earned his freedom when his former master disappeared. He inherited a moderately successful company from his father. Under his leadership it has flourished, and using capital from his venture he effectively owns an entire region. He routinely visits covens of witches but complains that many are fraudulent and lack true knowledge of magic.
