His father taught him the rudiments of the Map Maker arts, while his mother instructed him in etiquette, music and courtly manner. A serious injury left his father unemployed and in need of constant care. His family became saddled with debt trying to care for his infirm father. When his spouse passed he lost his only source of income but claims to his sons to still be retired.

History: He was born the only child of a wealthy merchant. Through the years after Rolen was born, his mother became increasingly distant from his family, instead choosing to pursue power in the south. Rolen's mother didn't care for him much, and the feeling was mutual. By chance he met his brother recently and the two have been together since.
