It turned out to be an ancient artifact of some kind. He has done his darndest to repair it but it is currently non-functional.

Personality: He is soft-spoken, optimistic and speaks nonstop, as he rather likes the sound of his voice. His demeanor is somewhat feminine. Arannis is a bit of a follower. Usually he is manipulated by his sisters into helping them out, but recently he has become more of a free agent.

History: He was born blind and as such lacked many opportunities for work. From there he went from mercenary job to mercenary job. During his travels, Arannis and his party rested in a cavern that was (unknown to them) infused with powerful dark magic. Upon awakening, Arannis discovered the rest of his party dead, transformed into horrible, mindless undead versions of their former selves. Personality: He goes out his way to put a smile on everyone's face. There's no-one he won't accept into his heart. He is used to getting what he wants. In part because he is a meticulous planner.

History: The child of western immigrants he idolized his father. His father worked until he suffered an accident while they were digging through a hill for a new route. He had to support his now crippled father and took his father's old job. When his spouse passed he lost his only source of income but claims to his daughters to still be retired.

Motivation: Retire the richest man in the west.
