History: Raised by wardens he was only a novice when illithids swooped upon their monastery and killed most of the order. At some point he was captured by illithids and was tortured. After several years of this he finally managed to escape. Since then, he has sought to make the best of life.

Motivation: Someone believes him a fraud; and his name or reputation has been wronged in the past by illithids, and he desires to right it

History: His divine talent manifested at a young age. Aiming to upstage a rival house, his parents had him trained. He sought a place where he would be rewarded solely on the merits of his skills. This search led him directly into Merchant work with an outfit from a few towns over. Merchant work suited him well, and with each successful project, he earned more gold and more respect from his peers. He has since lost track of the people in his past.
