History: He was born the only child of a wealthy merchant. He took every job he could get his hands on, but the opportunities for Elves in the west were limited. He left for the west, certain he would find work there.

To avoid death by starvation, most orphans take to a life of crime or prostitution (often both), and so did Uthemar. He moves from town to town, unable to find a place to settle.
