When money was particularly tight he was walking through alleys when he overheard a Map Maker hiring some criminals to sabotage a competitor. He made his way to the other competitor and parlayed his knowledge into a job. He now has a substantial network of resources ranging from contacts to ships to peers.

Personality: A grumpy guy he will invite people to lunch so he can critique them. Yet he still seems generally likeable, like a lovable grump. His respect, as difficult as one would find it to earn, is unwavering; those who more than prove themselves to him, a bar set well above any reasonable standard, he tolerates in varying degrees. Though less modest and more hasty in his reactions to snap at those who irritate him, Theren is combative with any and all who dare try his patience in the slightest.

History: Raised by wardens he was only a novice when orcs swooped upon their monastery and killed most of the order. In his 17th year, his parents were killed by a orcs raid, leaving Theren alone in the world. After a stint in an orphanage, he was adopted. He has made many enemies by not giving into corruption and outing many instances of it.
