His uncle (a powerful person with enemies on both sides of the law) took him in and had him trained in basic self defense. He was granted divine powers by his dying sister.

When money was particularly tight he was walking through alleys when he overheard a Apothecary hiring some criminals to sabotage a competitor. He made his way to the other competitor and parlayed his knowledge into a job. He was recently attacked on the road and savagely beaten by bandits.

He was a hard man then and has only learned to fight more as time goes on. He bought a hand crossbow and has really upped his game hunting, due to his understanding of decoy and ambush.
