His family spent the next few days looking for him, and could only assume he was dead when it came time to leave. The family never returned to the island due to the painful memories there. Mindartis took refuge in the ruined castle and found the beat up crossbow and armor he uses now. He was recently attacked on the road and savagely beaten by bandits.

To blow off anger he lifts weights and to control his otherwise explosive temper he works out a lot.

History: He was born in the south, but his parents moved at a very young age to the west. His father was a mechanic, and taught him how to fix just about anything. One night he noticed a nearby shooting star which he hiked out to see where it landed. It turned out to be an ancient artifact of some kind. He has done his darndest to repair it but it is currently non-functional.

He graduated from the Naval Academy and went to see the world at the rank of Ensign. He advanced relatively quickly due to his good work ethic, understanding of the chain of command, and natural leadership ability. After a long history of fighting, Varis and his spouse have recently divorced.
