Motivation: A need for knowledge about a nearby landmark; and he has a rivalry with the church that dominates his actions

History: Ahvain hails from a village terrorized by goblins. At some point he was captured by goblins and was tortured. After several years of this he finally managed to escape. He is untrained/undisciplined, which makes him dangerous.

He was an apprentice working in his mother's forge. He has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to illithids demanding more tribute than usual.
