History: He was born into a rich family. Through the years after Naeris was born, his mother became increasingly distant from his family, instead choosing to pursue power in the north. Naeris's mother didn't care for him much, and the feeling was mutual. He now owns his own business.

Motivation: He is unsatisfied with his job.

Personality: Varis hangs on like a leech to those who appreciate him. It was this clingy personality that held back his writing career. He is vehemently anti-magic. All of it is evil and corrupting in his opinion.

History: He was born the only child of a wealthy merchant. Varis abandoned his home at a very young age, living in the fields and plains. He survived everyday through hunting and stealing from passersby. He did whatever it took for him to survive. He has became unsatisfied with his lot in life, and decided to take up adventuring.

Motivation: He's looking for his big break.

His fair skin shows little sign of his aristocratic breeding.

Personality: While he is on the job, he is grim and serious. He understands how dangerous the world is and the need to stay safe. He moves from fascination to fascination almost instantaneously. If something can keep his interest for a month it is impressive.

History: He was born in the north. He inherited a moderately successful company from his mother. Under his leadership it has flourished, and using capital from his venture he effectively owns an entire region. He moves from town to town, unable to find a place to settle.

Personality: While he acts the brute, he is far gentler than he would appear. He does not believe in violence as a means to an end. He is a dedicated Healer but believes his peers are too gung-ho.

History: Born in the east to a Healer, Mindartis learned a great deal about his mother's area of expertise. His parents died when he was young, and he was unceremoniously dumped in the city orphanage. Mindartis grew up in the orphanage, tormented by the older kids and famished from lack of food. To avoid death by starvation, most orphans take to a life of crime or prostitution (often both), and so did Mindartis. He has set out to sabotage the competition.
