History: He was born blind and as such lacked many opportunities for work. As a young child he wandered into the woods despite his father's warnings against it. Afterwards he claimed he had encountered illithids who tried to eat his hand. He would ruin relationships and cause injury. He was reprimanded several times before being given his current form and forced to learn humility.

Motivation: Many illithids want him driven away; and he possesses a valuable artifact that the thieves guild wishes to steal
