Without his spouse to temper him he grew out of control. Due to his spouse's obsession with being a Baker they were divorced and he won custody of their son. He worked as a Cook, and he later adopted a second son.

Motivation: He possesses a valuable artifact that the thieves guild wishes to steal; and a rival would like him out of the picture
