It turned out to be an ancient artifact of some kind. He has done his darndest to repair it but it is currently non-functional.

Personality: He is a hateful person. He taunts others and blames them for his problems. A fanatic, his devotion to his small selection of gods is unquestionable. He claims to be doing their will and will base all his actions on whether or not they would be pleasing to the gods.

History: He was born the only child of a wealthy merchant. He has chosen to use the inheritance that was left to him frivolously. He has been a successful dealer in antiques buying low and selling high.

History: He was born to loving parents in a slum to the north. Personality: He never swears and excessively uses polite adverbs when speaking. He has no love for corruption and racketeering and views those as crimes of the highest magnitude.

History: He was born to a pair of big game hunters, but was frequently ill as a child. He was married off to the eldest child of a minor noble. His spouse died of illness and he inherited everything. He has built up a small fortune and can afford his own way.

Motivation: He is greedy.
