Perhaps he's slightly insane, or otherwise so mentally alien to the rest of the world that he plain doesn't fit in. He bought a glaive and has really upped his game hunting, due to his understanding of decoy and ambush.

Motivation: His name or reputation has been wronged in the past by dire rats, and he desires to right it; and a deep hatred of dire rats
