History: Ernest lived on a farm with his father, near the main road leading to a nearby town. His father worked until he suffered an accident while they were digging through a hill for a new route. He had to support his now crippled father and took his father's old job. When his spouse passed he lost his only source of income but claims to his daughters to still be retired.

He has the appearance of someone under the heavy influence of drugs.

Personality: He is a melancholic, but persistent worker. He resents family life and as such spurns the advances of admirers. He cannot deal with unfamiliar people for more than a few minutes at a time and if they persist he will grow angry at them.

History: He was born blind and as such lacked many opportunities for work. Through the years after Shane was born, his father became increasingly distant from his family, instead choosing to pursue power in the south. Shane's father didn't care for him much, and the feeling was mutual. He got away from his former life and has fallen to alcoholism.
