His family spent the next few days looking for him, and could only assume he was dead when it came time to leave. The family never returned to the island due to the painful memories there. Bertram took refuge in the old dungeon and found the beat up pickaxe and armor he uses now. He has became unsatisfied with his lot in life, and decided to take up adventuring.

History: He was born a particularly ugly child, much to the horror of his parents. At some point he was captured by giants and was tortured. After several years of this he finally managed to escape. He has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to giants demanding more tribute than usual.

Motivation: He is currently in port desperately looking for someone to get him out; and he seems to be bored by most things

Since his mother passed away years ago, his father had doted on him, and he came to think her himself as special and better than other people in town. A notion that was reinforced by his attractiveness, a trait in which he easily excels the other men of his town. Unlike his family, who was content to work in a sleepy main town, he wanted to work in the city. He has been working here for the past few years.
