His parents divorced when he was young, and his mother gained full cudstody. He was regularly beaten by his mother, who blamed him for driving them apart. He knows his nephew is from a royal line that had remained secret for centuries, but promised not to tell anyone. So far, no-one knows but him.

History: Born in a small village he learned the ways of the warrior from his mother. His druidic abilities were realized during a raid on his village. He now has a substantial network of resources ranging from contacts to ships to peers.

Motivation: Retire the richest man in the west; and to fight the greatest warriors and to fight in the greatest battles ever

Description: A middle-aged man, he is constantly adorned with expensive silk clothing, often dyed in bright black and tan, and wears rings and necklaces with large, colorful gems, and is pretty ugly. He has a silver handlebar mustache and slicked back silver hair. He is missing an eye and his face is severely sunburned. His one remaining eye shines amber.

Personality: A grumpy guy he will invite people to lunch so he can critique them. Yet he still seems generally likeable, like a lovable grump. He uses his nature as a weapon; he likes to lead opponents to think him in distress.

History: Born in the west to a Layabout, Bertram learned a great deal about his mother's area of expertise. When he came of age, he joined a caravan that would eventually take him to the capital. He would practice along the way and, when he arrived, be apprenticed to a Layabout. He has achieved small success as a Layabout.

Personality: He is not truly malevolent, but he is obsessed with music. He constantly tries to fill his life with music. He is lazy, self-centered, vain, and jealous.

History: He grew up in a lower middle class home, but living comfortably wasn't enough. He was married off to the eldest child of a minor noble. His spouse died of illness and he inherited everything. He has built up a small fortune and can afford his own way.

Motivation: He seems to be bored by most things.
