He was preparing to flee to the south, but the outbreak of war prevented him and his mother from journeying south to reunite his family. He became a plane-shifter, and is stopping over on this plane for a brief visit.

A notion that was reinforced by his attractiveness, a trait in which he easily excels the other men of his town. He has been saving his money to try and buy his brother's freedom.
