However, he heard that his father had died fighting off the giants.

History: He got into the Armorer business at a young age. Aside from being a slave or a gladiator, there isn't much legitimate work for Humans in Richard's homeland. Richard decided to take the middle way and become a bodyguard. He tends to his Armorer job now, and dutifully fulfills any obligations he has.
