His spouse left him for another, whom he beat to an almost bloody pulp. He did not win them back, but he came to a realization. To get what you want from life, you must take it. He was granted psionic powers by his dying brother.

Without his spouse to temper him he grew out of control. Due to his spouse's obsession with being a Mayor they were divorced and he won custody of their son. He worked as a Mortician, and he later adopted a second son.
