When money was particularly tight he was walking through alleys when he overheard a Banker hiring some criminals to sabotage a competitor. He made his way to the other competitor and parlayed his knowledge into a job. After months of barely getting by, Nicholas managed to ambush a major caravan with a load of valuables. Instantly wealthy, he made his way to the capital under a new identity.
