However, he heard that his mother had died fighting off the giants.

History: Born in the north to a Merchant, Drogo learned a great deal about his mother's area of expertise. His spouse left him for another, whom he beat to an almost bloody pulp. He did not win them back, but he came to a realization. To get what you want from life, you must take it. He became a Merchant soon after.
