His homeland was ravaged by war and he spent much of his life rebuilding it. He was recently attacked on the road and savagely beaten by bandits.

His uncle (a powerful person with enemies on both sides of the law) took him in and had him trained in basic self defense. History: Born to a pair of adventurers, Richard grew up listening to his mother's many stories. Like his mother and his sister before him, after school he went straight into learning to become a Tanner. He has achieved small success as a Tanner.
