After coming to the age of reason, Gerard took it upon himself to study the necromantic arts in their entirety; because of this, he was labeled a dark omen and banished from his homeland. Ostracized due to the psionic powers of his oldest sister, he and his siblings struck out on their own. In the process these unassuming Humans became a terror of the countryside. During his travels, Jocelyn and his party rested in a cavern that was (unknown to them) infused with powerful dark magic. Upon awakening, Jocelyn discovered the rest of his party dead, transformed into horrible, mindless undead versions of their former selves. Jocelyn fled the cavern, stopping for breath at a small pool, and only then realizing his own horrible transformation.
