History: He served in the navy to pay for his family's outstanding loans. He struck it rich when he found rare goods in large quantities. He was recently attacked on the road and savagely beaten by bandits.

History: Gilbert lived on a farm with his mother, near the main road leading to a nearby town. He was taken from his home at a very young age. When his spouse passed he lost his only source of income but claims to his daughters to still be retired.

Motivation: His relatives are trying to arrange a marriage.

Perhaps he's slightly insane, or otherwise so mentally alien to the rest of the world that he plain doesn't fit in. He has built up a small fortune and can afford his own way.
