He has been working here for the past few years.

History: From birth he was tutored by a cruel and relentless mentor. From there he went from mercenary job to mercenary job. During his travels, Adam and his party rested in a cavern that was (unknown to them) infused with powerful dark magic. Upon awakening, Adam discovered the rest of his party dead, transformed into horrible, mindless undead versions of their former selves. Adam fled the cavern, stopping for breath at a small pool, and only then realizing his own horrible transformation.

History: He was born into a rich family. He sought a place where he would be rewarded solely on the merits of his skills. This search led him directly into Mayor work with an outfit from a few towns over. Mayor work suited him well, and with each successful project, he earned more gold and more respect from his peers. He was betrayed by a partner and left for dead, teaching him a humbling lesson in trusting others.
