Personality: Rurik speaks confidently about a variety of topics with grace. He is clearly well-traveled and educated. He is a bit of a xeno-phobe, disliking non-Dwarves.

History: From birth he was tutored by a cruel and relentless mentor. While studying, he fell in love. They married and had a son. Some 6 years later his spouse died after the birth of his son. Heartbroken, Rurik never married again. Instead he focused his life to raising his son whom he trained as his father had trained him before.

Personality: He is erratic and paranoid. He believes orcs are coming to abduct people. A fanatic, his devotion to his small selection of gods is unquestionable. He claims to be doing their will and will base all his actions on whether or not they would be pleasing to the gods.

History: Raised by wardens he was only a novice when orcs swooped upon their monastery and killed most of the order. Aside from being a slave or a gladiator, there isn't much legitimate work for Elves in Vanuath's homeland. Vanuath decided to take the middle way and become a bodyguard. He moves from town to town, unable to find a place to settle.

He has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to gnolls demanding more tribute than usual.

Motivation: His name or reputation has been wronged in the past by gnolls, and he desires to right it.
