History: He was born in the south. His parents died when he was young, and he was unceremoniously dumped in the city orphanage. Umpen grew up in the orphanage, tormented by the older kids and famished from lack of food. To avoid death by starvation, most orphans take to a life of crime or prostitution (often both), and so did Umpen. He moves from town to town, unable to find a place to settle.

When money was particularly tight he was walking through alleys when he overheard a Miner hiring some criminals to sabotage a competitor. He made his way to the other competitor and parlayed his knowledge into a job. Recently a tribe of drow attacked the village and all able bodies who could hold a blade were quickly armed and sent to the walls. Barfa fought at the side of some of the regions greatest heroes but was never overshadowed.
