After coming to the age of reason, Ratbag took it upon himself to study the arcane arts in their entirety; because of this, he was labeled a dark omen and banished from his homeland. He was granted arcane powers by his dying sister.

When money was particularly tight he was walking through alleys when he overheard a Crown-heir hiring some criminals to sabotage a competitor. He made his way to the other competitor and parlayed his knowledge into a job. Recently the stress of being a Crown-heir has made it difficult for him to sleep.

When their plan failed the mentor lashed out against both of them and fled. He left for the east, certain he would find work there.
