Because his father participated in the massacre of their homeland, brigands burned their ranch to the ground and forced them out. He was preparing to flee to the east, but the outbreak of war prevented him and his mother from journeying east to reunite his family. He then took over the family business and is one of the better Stableman for hire.

History: Born to a pair of adventurers, Richard grew up listening to his mother's many stories. In his 12th year, his parents were killed by a illithids raid, leaving Richard alone in the world. After a stint in an orphanage, he was adopted. He spent several years traveling with his friend, before both settled down to enjoy the fruits of their adventures.
