Because they were valued, his mother taught him to defend himself. When his mother died while fighting goblins, the young Barendd began to lead the lost caravan. Like his mother and his brother before him, after school he went straight into learning to become a Stylist. He was betrayed by a partner and left for dead, teaching him a humbling lesson in trusting others.
