He was betrayed by a partner and left for dead, teaching him a humbling lesson in trusting others.

Motivation: His name or reputation has been wronged in the past by orcs, and he desires to right it.

He quickly showed his capability and was soon promoted to a head role. He has worked as a Slave Trader like his father before him.
