History: His mother raised him in a mountain cabin. When he was little, his rather wealthy family often ventured across the island to a summer home near a old dungeon. His family spent the next few days looking for him, and could only assume he was dead when it came time to leave. The family never returned to the island due to the painful memories there. Balam took refuge in the old dungeon and found the beat up ceremonial dagger and armor he uses now. He has been saving his money to try and buy his brother's freedom.

He made his way to the other competitor and parlayed his knowledge into a job. By chance he met his sister recently and the two have been together since.

Under his leadership it has flourished, and using capital from his venture he effectively owns an entire region. He has made many enemies by not giving into corruption and outing many instances of it.

History: He was raised in a white middle class family as the only child. There was a wharf not far from home where he often wandered off to fish. He was betrayed by a partner and left for dead, teaching him a humbling lesson in trusting others.
