History: The child of eastern immigrants he idolized his father. Because his father participated in the massacre of their homeland, dire rats burned their ranch to the ground and forced them out. He was preparing to flee to the east, but the outbreak of war prevented him and his mother from journeying east to reunite his family. He left for the east, certain he would find work there.

History: Roland lived on a farm with his mother, near the main road leading to a nearby town. His parents divorced when he was young, and his mother gained full cudstody. He was regularly beaten by his mother, who blamed him for driving them apart. He has gone from town to town working and never settling down anywhere, but has fallen for a local Unemployed. He hasn't told them the truth, but wants to settle down with them.
