History: He was born to a wealthy landowner in a frontier town, living a normal and happy childhood. Balam was a troubled youth. He spent his days as a hard laborer instead of attending school, and spent his evenings with numerous mobsters and gang members. Balam decided he wanted neither the life of his father nor that of the evil petty criminals he associated with. During his early adolescence, he took a sudden opportunity while working the docks and commandeered a vessel that was left unmanned. He hasn't been sleeping well lately.

History: His parents moved while he was still in utero so he is the first generation to be born here. His father disappeared, and while he tried to raise money to find his father, he was betrayed dozens of times. He has worked as a Navigator like his father before him.

Motivation: He feels that his past leaves him morally obligated to help; and he is being blackmailed/forced/etc and this influences his actions
