Aside from being a slave or a gladiator, there isn't much legitimate work for Gnomes in Umpen's homeland. Umpen decided to take the middle way and become a bodyguard. He left for the north, certain he would find work there.

History: Eiravel hails from a village terrorized by gnolls. His parents died when he was young, and he was unceremoniously dumped in the city orphanage. Eiravel grew up in the orphanage, tormented by the older kids and famished from lack of food. To avoid death by starvation, most orphans take to a life of crime or prostitution (often both), and so did Eiravel. He has been a successful dealer in antiques buying low and selling high.
