When their plan failed the mentor lashed out against both of them and fled. He struck the Cook job and began his own company from there.

Motivation: He has comitted a past crime that haunts him to this day; and balancing his hectic life and new cook responsibilities is difficult

He got caught, but did not rat out his comrades and served his time in prison. He would ruin relationships and cause injury. He was reprimanded several times before being given his current form and forced to learn humility.
