The company confiscated a lot of silver, but the shipment was lost. When his spouse passed he lost his only source of income but claims to his daughters to still be retired.

Motivation: His name or reputation has been wronged in the past by dire rats, and he desires to right it; and he wants random interesting trinkets and junk, hates to throw anything away

History: Born the oldest of a large religious western family, he was no stranger to responsibility. His mother was supposedly a charlatan fortune teller, but he insists his mother was legitimate. He has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to goblins demanding more tribute than usual.

Motivation: Many goblins want him driven away; and he has a rivalry with the church that dominates his actions
