He has chosen to use the inheritance that was left to him frivolously. He knows his nephew is from a royal line that had remained secret for centuries, but promised not to tell anyone. Motivation: He made a deal with a demon which lead to his current lot in life, and he's becoming increasingly nervous about it; and he wants revenge against illithids
