It turned out to be an ancient artifact of some kind. He has done his darndest to repair it but it is currently non-functional.

Description: An older man who wears a violet shirt, with a brown mid length shorts with brown tights and flats, usually wearing a coat over them, he is not a threatening figure. His silver hair is lengthy and is close to two feet long. He has a very pronounced jaw and large eyebrows. He wears rectangular glasses with silver brims.

Personality: He is a hateful person. He taunts others and blames them for his problems. He does not believe in violence as a means to an end. He is a dedicated Gardener but believes his peers are too gung-ho.

History: Born in the north to a Gardener, Ur-Dag learned a great deal about his father's area of expertise. At a young age he wooed the heart of his future spouse and the two had a long relationship before they wed. He struck the Gardener job and began his own company from there.

Description: This dark-skinned male is wearing dark clothing and a heavy breastplate, keeping many of his physical features obscured. He is tall, broad shouldered and powerfully built. He wears a wide-brimmed hat to cover his moderate length red hair. His amber eyes are slightly larger than normal.

Personality: A rambunctious noisy drunk he knows how to make people feel guilty. He is terrible with names forgetting people's names several times before they finally stick; this causes him no end of embarrassment.

History: He was raised happily, as a normal child born to his mother and father. His mother taught him the rudiments of the Shoemaker arts, while his father instructed him in etiquette, music and courtly manner. He couldn't stand his childhood mentor and eventually formed a pact with his mentor's previously failed apprentice to rebel. When their plan failed the mentor lashed out against both of them and fled. He knows his nephew is from a royal line that had remained secret for centuries, but promised not to tell anyone. So far, no-one knows but him.
