He made his way to the other competitor and parlayed his knowledge into a job. He has been saving his money to try and buy his sister's freedom.

Motivation: He made a deal with a demon which lead to his current lot in life, and he's becoming increasingly nervous about it; and his relatives are trying to arrange a marriage

History: He was raised in a plains tribe. His arcane abilities were realized during a raid on his village. He's also a talented Mayor, but doesn't like to broadcast it.
