His uncle (a powerful person with enemies on both sides of the law) took him in and had him trained in basic self defense. He would ruin relationships and cause injury. He was reprimanded several times before being given his current form and forced to learn humility.

Motivation: He is a bit of a kleptomaniac; and he possesses a valuable artifact that the thieves guild wishes to steal

His mother being the stubborn sort decided to stay and helped train him in spear use. Days after completing his studies, news broke out that his hometown was attacked by brigands. Veit was horrified and prayed that his mother was alright. However, he heard that his mother had died fighting off the brigands.
