His father, a somewhat powerful mage sought to protect him and cast a teleportation spell that whisked him away. Lacking all sense, he decided to go on an adventure. He picked a direction and started trekking.

Motivation: To reunite with his absent mother; and he is being blackmailed/forced/etc and this influences his actions

History: Ernest hails from a village terrorized by brigands. He made his way to the other competitor and parlayed his knowledge into a job. He has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to brigands demanding more tribute than usual.
