History: He was born in a small mountains village. His parents died when he was young, and he was unceremoniously dumped in the city orphanage. Frederick grew up in the orphanage, tormented by the older kids and famished from lack of food. To avoid death by starvation, most orphans take to a life of crime or prostitution (often both), and so did Frederick. He left for the west, certain he would find work there.

History: She was born to a wealthy landowner in a frontier town, living a normal and happy childhood. Her father disappeared, and while she tried to raise money to find her father, she was betrayed dozens of times. She was always very intelligent and has formed a secret society of philosophers.

Motivation: Marry her sister to traveling adventurers; and she has a rivalry with the church that dominates her actions

History: She grew up in a lower middle class home, but living comfortably wasn't enough. Being born in the south, she completed her medical training abroad so as to avoid the war. She returned after the war having achieved medical proficiency. She was a general practitioner in the south for years, until she, through no fault of her own, lost a patient who had a very powerful family. Rather than risk reprisal she made her way east. By chance she met her brother recently and the two have been together since.

Motivation: To end her boredom; and she is being blackmailed/forced/etc and this influences her actions
