History: He was born several months after his father was called into army service. In his 12th year, his parents were killed by a drow raid, leaving Gilbert alone in the world. After a stint in an orphanage, he was adopted. He has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to drow demanding more tribute than usual.

Motivation: Many drow want him driven away.
