History: Gerard lived on a farm with his mother, near the main road leading to a nearby town. He dropped out of school to support his sick mother, and resented it. When his spouse passed he lost his only source of income but claims to his sons to still be retired.

Motivation: Wishes to resurrect an old love; and find a way to reverse the transformation of his sister

History: She was born to loving parents in a slum to the south. She graduated from the Naval Academy and went to see the world at the rank of Ensign. She advanced relatively quickly due to her good work ethic, understanding of the chain of command, and natural leadership ability.
