He was regularly beaten by his father, who blamed him for driving them apart. After a long history of fighting, Gilbert and his spouse have recently divorced.

History: His father raised him in a mountain cabin. His parents were killed by gnolls in a raid when he was still a young child. The gnolls captured him, and made him a slave and general play-thing. He was beaten and tortured regularly, leading to his deformed appearance. He has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to gnolls demanding more tribute than usual.

Motivation: His name or reputation has been wronged in the past by gnolls, and he desires to right it; and several ex partners dislike his way of doing things and want revenge
