She had to support her now crippled mother and took her mother's old job. She left for the south, certain she would find work there.

History: From birth she was tutored by a cruel and relentless mentor. She sought a place where she would be rewarded solely on the merits of her skills. This search led her directly into Guard work with an outfit from a few towns over. Guard work suited her well, and with each successful project, she earned more gold and more respect from her peers. She became a Guard soon after.

History: Richard was born to in a poor docking district. He spent his early days working in the same smith shop his mother was employed at, doing general labor. Richard was born on a far eastern island where he grew up under the tutelage of his mother, an expert Seamstress. Since then, he has sought to make the best of life.
